About the Artist

Brandi McDermott is a contemporary impressionist oil painter based in Germany, whose work captures the momentary qualities of light and atmosphere in landscapes, cityscapes, and still lifes. Working primarily en plein air, she translates the immediacy of her surroundings into exciting color and expressive brushwork, balancing structure with painterly freedom.

An independent artist, McDermott has developed her practice through years of disciplined study and professional workshops. Having lived in multiple regions and traveling extensively as an active-duty military spouse, her work is informed by diverse, changing landscapes and cultural experiences.  

McDermott was awarded First Prize at the 2022 8^th Annual Bisbee Plein Air Competition, exhibited in the 2025 juried EVBK exhibition, and was selected for a 2025 artist residency and exhibition in France. Rooted in the traditions of Impressionism, yet wholly contemporary in sensibility, her paintings reflect a refined translation of color, light, and atmosphere.
